Join us in our Maligne Valley “Wonders of Jasper” Tour!

The Maligne Valley “Wonders of Jasper” tour is an amazing  interpretive drive up the Maligne Valley. Our exploration will include a stop at Maligne Canyon for a gentle guided walk to the first two bridges above the gorge, a short stop at the “disappearing” Medicine Lake, and finally, Maligne Lake. At this picturesque gem of the Canadian Rockies you can choose to participate on a Maligne Lake cruise to the world famous Spirit Island or enjoy a guided hike along the Mary Schaffer Loop (3.2 km / 2 miles – weather and trail conditions permitting). The Maligne Valley Tour is mainly a nature, scenic, and geological voyage but it is also an excellent opportunity to see some of Jasper’s wildlife.

1

Maligne Canyon

This is one of Jasper’s most impressive natural phenomenon. Learn all about this magnificent canyon, carved out of solid granite over thousands of years as you walk between the first 2 bridges above the gorge.

2

Medicine Lake

Rivaling Maligne Lake, Medicine Lake is another one of Jasper’s watery gems! Learn about Karst topography of the area, and the mystery of why Medicine Lake disappears annually.

3

Maligne Lake and Spirit Island

Famed for the colour of it’s water, the surrounding peaks, the three glaciers visible from the lake, and Spirit Island.  This location speaks for itself and is not to be missed!

4

Guided Walk

If you would prefer to stay on terra firma, you have the option to join our guide for a leisurely guided walk along the shores of Maligne Lake. Many photo opportunities will be presented to you and you will have time to relax and soak up the environment.

Tour includes hotel pick up and drop off along with local guide commentary.

Whether you are Cruising or Hiking on the Maligne Valley Sightseeing Tour, here are the common stops:

  • Maligne Canyon
  • Medicine Lake
  • Scenic stops for wildlife and points of interest

When you arrive at Maligne Lake, guests who have paid for a cruise will be given their ticket and advised the time to meet the boat to Spirit Island.

Guests who are hiking will enjoy a 90-minute walk around the Mary Schaffer Loop or seasonally Moose Lake.

We’d recommend wearing outdoor, comfortable clothing and closed shoes. A windbreaker/waterproof layer is nice to have as the weather changes rapidly in the mountains.

Camera!! You will want to take lots of pictures during this scenic tour and we recommend bringing a water bottle and some snacks.

Lunch is not provided on this tour so please feel free to bring your lunch with you. You will also be given the opportunity to purchase a boxed lunch from Wilderness Kitchen at Maligne Canyon or The View Restaurant at Maligne Lake.

Spirit Island is 22 km by boat from the lake shore so you are unable to see this picturesque island.

Tour with Cruise
Upon arrival at Maligne Lake, your guide will organize your tickets and send you off on a “once in a lifetime” panoramic boat tour.   Fed by the glaciers of Jasper National Park, glide past the jagged mountain peaks as you cruise to Spirit Island, a world-famous destination only accessible by boat.  Visitors can explore the lake from the comfort of glass-enclosed and heated cruise boats while a knowledgeable guide retells Maligne’s history and explains its geology, wildlife, weather, flora and fauna.
