Spring is Here! Here are SunDog’s Top 5 Tours in Jasper National Park to Welcome the Spring Season

Spring is finally here and what better way to get some much-needed fresh air than an outdoor adventure? After being inside all winter, refresh your mind and body while exploring Jasper National Park with SunDog Tours. From venturing into the Maligne Canyon to journeying through the scenic Rocky Mountains on a Jasper train ride, we’ve provided our top five tours to help you welcome the Spring season.

Tour #1: Maligne Canyon Hiking Tour

Explore the deepest accessible canyon in the Rocky Mountains on the Maligne Canyon Hiking Tour. On this guided hike, learn about Jasper’s Maligne Valley, Karst topography and the mystery of the disappearing Medicine Lake. Listen to the natural sounds of the rushing rapids while watching the magnificent waterfalls on your journey through Bridge 1 to Bridge 5. You won’t have to worry about trekking back up the steep ascent to the top of the canyon, as the SunDog shuttle is included in this tour.

The Maligne Canyon Hiking Tour is great for all ages and is about three hours long in duration. Guests are welcome to use boots, ice cleats and hiking poles provided by SunDog Tours if conditions require them. In the early season of Spring, boots and cleats help support balance and stability in icy areas.

Tour #2: Wildlife Discovery Tour

If you’re looking to spot some animals while in Jasper National Park, be sure to check out the Wildlife Discovery Tour. Jasper is known for being the ultimate place to view wildlife in their natural surroundings. Your informative SunDog tour guide will be able to teach you about the animals that live in the park and how the area’s wildlife contributes to the rich diversity of Jasper. Your guide will also take you to some of Jasper’s hidden gems within the lesser-known areas of the Athabasca Valley.

Some of the many animals you might see on this tour include elk, deer, bears, moose and mountain goats. As this tour is guided by a highly trained SunDog tour guide, it’s fun and safe for the whole family. The Wildlife Discovery Tour begins May 1—if you’re planning to visit before, check out the Winter Wildlife Discovery Tour, which runs into late April.

Tour #3: Jasper Train Rides

If you’re not looking for a hiking tour, a Jasper Train Ride tour is the perfect way to experience picturesque scenes within the Rocky Mountains. Guests will board Via Rail’s Skeena Train and set off on their journey through the Rockies. Make sure your camera is ready because on this train ride you’ll be able to see the Rocky Mountains in a whole new way, and you might even catch a glimpse of wildlife roaming throughout the park.

SunDog Tours offers guests two types of train tours that operate year-round. The Dunster Train Tour runs on Sundays, and the McBride Train Tour operates on Thursdays. The Dunster Train Tour takes guests for a scenic ride to Dunster, BC, where guests will arrive at the town’s historic train station. On the way back to Jasper, guests will be guided by one of SunDog’s tour guides and embark on a sightseeing journey.

After a sightseeing tour to McBride, BC, guests on the McBride Train Tour will return back to Jasper on a scenic ride through the Rocky Mountains. On the McBride Tour, guests venture along the Robson Valley, where they can experience and photograph the breathtaking snow-capped Cariboo Mountains.

Tour #4: Jasper to Lake Louise and Banff Tour

Welcome the Spring season by spending a day trip adventuring the Rockies on the Jasper to Lake Louise and Banff Tour. Travel along the spine of the Rocky Mountains to Lake Louise with sights of stunning waterfalls, towering glaciers, and shimmering lakes throughout the mountains. Your experienced SunDog tour guide will provide you with additional information about the geographical and historical significance of the Icefields Parkway.

On the Jasper to Lake Louise Tour, there are various stops along the way where guests are able to sightsee. The Crowfoot Glacier, Athabasca Falls, Bow Lake, and Weeping Wall are just some of the exciting places you’ll visit. As this tour does not require intense hiking, it’s the perfect adventure for everyone in the family—regardless of age or ability.

Tour #5: Canoe Adventures Tours

If you’re looking for a unique and calming activity, try a Canoe Adventure. Whether it’s to unwind after a long day of exploring or a relaxing activity to start your morning, canoeing in Jasper National Park is a fun way to experience the park in a new way.
